Siblings of Destiny April 2011

Secretary General's Highlights

On April 21 - 23, 2011, the Baisakhi Siblings of Destiny Meeting was held in Espanola, New Mexico.  The theme of the meeting was “Building our Future Together, Hand in Hand”.  Approximately 130 members attended from our worldwide Sangat, to join together in spirit and unity to continue our service to the Dharma and the legacy of the Siri Singh Sahib’s teachings. The meetings were truly extraordinary!  They were a beautiful manifestation of the commitment and consciousness of our global Sangat and there was so much hope and heart towards moving forward together in gratitude and unity of purpose. It was a privilege and a blessing to attend these meetings and share this experience with our worldwide Siblings of Destiny.

Understanding the importance of this time in the history of Sikh Dharma, everyone came ready to participate in serving the future of our Dharma. Each day we heard a lecture of the Siri Singh Sahib and felt his divine presence guiding the meetings.  We meditated and chanted together to elevate and unite our spirit. We had a detailed legal update and there were wonderful presentations about Dasvand, our dharmic organizations and our communities.

Beginning with the premise that: “We would like our leadership model to reflect the values and technology which are at the core of our identity”, we based our discussions around the following four questions:

  1. What institutional safeguards can we build into a leadership model to insure conscious administration of all of our entities?
  2. How can we insure that the individuals who serve in positions of leadership consciously deliver the mission of the Siri Singh Sahib and selflessly serve the future of our Dharma?  What is the selection criteria for leadership that best reflects the values, caliber, and consciousness embodied in the teachings of Sikh Dharma and the Siri Singh Sahib?
  3. How can we cross-pollinate or synergize the efforts of the non-profits in serving the mission and legacy of the SSS?
  4. What do you see as the role of the Khalsa Council moving into the future?

One of the true highlights that occurred during the meetings was the response to a heartfelt, fund-raising presentation made by some members of the Sangat.  It inspired everyone so deeply, that an unbelievable $420,000 was raised for the Legal Fund within a two hour period!     It was amazing and showed the commitment, the unity and the heart of our beautiful worldwide Sangat.  We all shared in the divine experience of making the impossible possible!
